About linux-os
linux-os answers a simple question: which version of a package ships in each supported Linux release, and how long is it supported? It tracks 65 key packages across every supported release of Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch Linux, next to kernel, end-of-life and release data.
Everything shown is a verifiable fact read automatically from official sources. Nothing is edited by hand.
How versions are read
- The version of the distribution's default package for amd64, in the release, updates and security pockets. Proposed, testing and backports repositories are never used.
- Fedora versions are the latest stable update in Bodhi, never one still in testing.
- Versions are compared upstream (3.12.3); the distribution's own revision (3.12.3-0ubuntu2.1) is shown alongside.
- An older version is not an unpatched one: distributions backport security fixes for the whole life of a release. That is why this site never labels a distro version "outdated".
